Some MikeGriffin.me Site Updates

WordPress is under appreciated by those who think it is just a sort of WYSIWYG tool for building websites and/or blogging. Once you learn what’s “under the hood” it is a really powerful website creation framework.

Today I looked at my website and thought “I don’t like it”. I don’t just not like it, I don’t like the default layout of the “sidebars” that come with the theme I use! I love the theme I’m using and it is my most often used theme for clients. And most of the time I love the default layout of the sidebars. In particular, I love the number of sidebards and flexibility  in the way that they are called. But the way that my site has evolved lead me to think that I needed to move the Top Showcase Sidebar down under the Call to Action sidebar.

Having the knowldege and ability to make this change is exactly why clients hire me. 😉.

So how do you move a sidebar?  It’s really pretty easy. First you find out where the sidebar is called using a search files functionality. I use Sublime 2. So I search all the files in the Emotions Theme for .

WordPress Search All Files with Sublime 2

When the result is returned:

Now that know that it is called in the Header, I just move it.
