♥ Move from GoDaddy | Laughing Squid to Namecheap

I just recently completed a move for a client. Here are the steps:

  1. Create a Namecheap Account, https://www.namecheap.com/myaccount/signup.aspx
  2. Move the domain from GoDaddy to Namecheap: Follow Namecheap’s how-to https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/876/83/how-to-transfer-a-domain-from-godaddy. This causes no downtime to the website because the client is using a third party DNS, Laughing Squid.
  3. Buy a shared hosting account at Namecheap: https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared.aspx.
  4. Use FTP to download and zip up the WordPress files on Laughing Squid.
  5. Use phpMyAdmin on Laughing Squid to save a copy of the WordPress database.
  6. Setup your website on the shared hosting account by importing the database backup into a WordPress empty database and restore the zipped WordPress files. **the domain will remain the same so there will be no need to change any URLs saved in the database**.
  7. Change the Nameservers from Lauging Squid/Rackspace to Namecheap. https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/767/10/how-can-i-change-the-nameservers-for-my-domain **This will not take down the website down. Since the DNS servers are either pointing at the old or the new installation, the response should show the visitors the website in both cases.
  8. After DNS propagation is complete, setup email on Namecheap.

That’s it! 🙂
